Come and learn about the moth species that live at Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal whilst helping our wildlife volunteers count them in this conservation activity.
Meet the wildlife volunteers at the visitor centre and learn about the important role moths play in improving biodiversity. Did you know there are over 2500 species of moth UK wide? All of these moths play a vital role in plant pollination, particularly at night time. What species will you discover?
This activity is happening between 10am and 11am and it perfect for families and budding young naturalists aged 11-18 years.

- Meeting point
Meet the ranger volunteers and team at the visitor centre green, on the left as you enter the estate.
- What to bring and wear
Please wear sturdy shoes and dress appropriately for the weather.
- Accessibility
There is level access from the main visitor centre car park to the green.
- Other
Five light traps will be set up at 8pm on the evening before this event. Volunteers will be onsite at dawn, checking the five traps, recording their findings and transferring the moths into containers ready for your observing. The moths will be released at 11am on the day of the event.
