Group and school visits are always welcome at William Wordsworth’s childhood home. There is so much for your group to see and do, with a new exhibition annually, the garden changing with every season and the Georgian town of Cockermouth offering lots to explore. Find out all you need to know about booking your group and educational visit.

Group visits at Wordsworth House

If you book your group visit in advance, you can have a free 10-minute welcome talk by a member of staff.

Explore our latest exhibition, Wildlife Encounters, and the rest of the house at your leisure. Relax in the garden, then have a browse for Wordsworth souvenirs and second-hand books.

Free familiarisation visits for group leaders

If you're planning a group visit you can request our free Travel Trade Pass and you and a friend or colleague will gain free entry to over 300 of our places throughout England, Wales and Northern Ireland for 12 months. There’s nothing quite like seeing or experiencing somewhere for yourself to help you plan a successful visit. To receive your pass, call 0344 800 2329 or email us at NTTravelTrade@capita.co.uk.

Who is eligible for free entry?

Registered tourist board guides (on production of a valid badge), coach drivers and tour leaders escorting groups of 15 or more. National Trust members also receive free entry, so it is at your discretion whether to refund the entrance fee to members if you have included it in your package – this is not refunded by the National Trust.

Members must bring their current membership cards with them to avoid paying the full group rate. If any of your group would like to join the National Trust please direct them to our Membership page or call 0344 800 1895.

We'll try to ensure your booked group is the only one in the house. However, there will be other visitors on site.

Make a day of it

Why not spend the whole day in the delightful Georgian town of Cockermouth?

Browse the independent shops on the tree-lined Main Street, take a stroll by the river to view Cockermouth Castle and enjoy lunch in one of the many local cafés and restaurants.

Educational visits

We are revising our schools programme in 2024 but are happy to discuss an educational visit with you.

We can offer your class a self-led visit on Mondays to Wednesdays.

Entry is £4.50 per child and accompanying adults are free.
